Question
What is the difference between an air conditioner and a fan?
Answer
A fan merely generates an air flow and promotes air circulation. So contrary to what many people think, a fan is not able to lower the room temperature, but only provides a cooling sensation by circulating the air. The cooling effect on the skin is based on the principle of evaporative cooling. However, the room temperature cannot be lowered with a fan.
With a mobile air conditioning system, on the other hand, the room temperature is actually cooled down and lowered to the desired temperature. It blows cold air into the room and the resulting waste heat is dissipated outside through a hose or the outdoor unit. Air conditioners also function as dehumidifiers and thus ensure a less humid indoor climate.
Conclusion:
A fan cools people and an air conditioner cools the room air.
